Well, I finally bought new fish, for the first time in many many months. And they are 2 Yo-Yo loaches. I read somewhere( maybe and old fish atlas) that they would starve in an aquarium without live worms. Anybody know if this is true? So far they seem to be eatin very well. I only bought two because they were the best looking of the bunch. They seem to be happy and thriving, hanging out with the clown loaches.
Any opinions on them?
Mine were fun to watch.
I haven't fed them live worms. I've fed them flakes and bloodworms. I did lose one and I don't know why. But, I've had one for over a month now. I'm waiting for my LFS to get more so I can get him a buddy!
I really like them too! Great fish!

I don't know about the live worms? One Yoyo I have had for some time now, just bought him a buddy. They seem to do fine on the shrimp pellets I feed the corys. I think the one thought he was a cory before I got the second Yoyo!! I really like these fish!

I have 3 yo-yos, two juvies and an adult. They are great, always active and very courageous. I have never fed and of my fish live worms and they are all great. Whatever you read isn't true. Once in a while, I drop in about 2 hikari bottom feeded tablets. They ate a huge number of the snails that were in the tank. They also eat whatever I put in, such as frozen bloodworms, tubifex worms, and squid.

mine LOVE live blackworms (much to the chagrin of my zigzag eel who now has to be a bit more aggressive to get his share), but it is by no means all i feed them or all they'll eat! they're arguably the most voracious eaters in their tank, eating freezedried and frozen foods of all kinds, in addition to any kind of pellets and flakes i use. i have 4 now, since an evil mystery disease killed one and nearly killed another (but he's back to full strength now), and they love to play with each other.
interestingly, they pretty much stick to themselves, while i've noticed that some of my skunk loaches think they're mini clown loaches and play with the 3 clowns i have most of the time...

Just be careful feeding any live food to your fish, as they may carry disease. I used to feed my fish with live blackworms on a regular basis until one day I bought an infected batch that introduced ich to my tank. All my fish were covered in whitespot in a matter of a few days. Luckily, I cured it with no casualties. Now I just feed them frozen worms. I'm not taking any more chances.

No, they won't starve in the absence of live worms. I have five year old yoyos that have never seen a live worm, so if they are starving they're taking a LOOOOONG time to do it!!!:D
My yoyos do just fine on flake, sinking wafers of various types, the occasional veggie, and frozen blood worms as a treat.

Ah Yes...Mine eat flakes straight from the top now. No starving going on here!
Thanks all.
