I was wondering if anyone had these or knew anything about them. I just bought a trio this weekend, and can't find any specific information on them. The male has a sort of bluey-purple iridescent body with a yellow caudal fin that has a black margin. The female is pretty standard Poeciliid-looking with a black dot near the base of her dorsal fin. I found one picture of a male (I think) but no images of females. Without any more specific info, I'm just going to treat them like any other platy/swordtail.

http://www.fishbase.org/Country/CountrySearchList.cfm?Country=332&Group=freshwater (lists several species, with several limia)

Don't have any personal experience--this is from searching on "limia livebearers" and the scientific name.

They should be ok, if housed in a 10 gallon tank, these guys do prefer a nice planted tank as do most livebeaerers. Do regular water changes, these guys may not be tolerant of water conditions as other livebearers.
Just also remember to give them a good mix of foods and you should have fry in no time.

Here is a site that is a great wealth of links and info on livebearers.

A book I also recommend, a cheap and easy book to find is Livebearing Fishes by peter w. scott From tetra press.

I personally like Hieronimus' "Guppies, Mollies, and Platies" (Barron's Press) for Livebearer info...the title doesn't cover the true range of the book.

Thanks all, I forgot to mention that I think mine are Limia versicolor.

Right now, I'm keeping them in my planted 29 gallon. They seem pretty happy in there. My other option would be to move them into my 10 gallon with my Kribensis fry.

My main concern was making sure that the females were true to type. Not for any particular reason, but just to know. I paid 15 bucks for the trio, so I just wanted to make sure I didn't get scammed.

OG, I did find some of those links, but not all when I did a google search. Weird. And Chil and tricksterpup, I'll look for those books. Thanks.
