What's a good loach for a 55? Is there one that gets around 8 inches long or so? Hopefully not too shy, also..

I have two clown loaches, one horseface loach, and one yoyo loach in my 55 gallon tank. Horseface loach is about 5 inches, yoyo is about 2 and my clowns are about 2 inches.
There are a lot of interesting loaches out there.

Clowns loaches would be good but need to be in groups of atleast 3. Orange finned loaches get big but also need groups http://www.loaches.com/species_pages/botia_modesta.html
an 8" loach is a little big of a 55g, since 55g are usually 12" wide. Loaches are quite active and need lots of room to swim. A group of 8" loaches might not be a great choice for a 55g.

You can probably guess by my AC name that I'm fond of dojo loaches. Lots of personality. Just make sure you keep your tank totally covered. Sensei went carpet surfing and wound up as an impromptu doggie treat. :(

thanks everybody. i had given up on this thread since it didnt get a response for a while. i guess it had something to do with me putting good "load" for a 55, when i really meant to put "loach". at times i can be pretty far out there.
would clowns bet too large for a 75?
i will read about the horseface, yoyo and dojo loaches...i dont know about that orange finned one on the link.

I keep clowns, orange-finned, yoyos, and a zebra loach just fine in my 55g. Though, I do agree, a 55g is about the bare minimum you'd want to keep them in when they are grown. If I could, I would upgrade to a 125g for them. Maybe eventually.

If you plan on upgrading at some point in the future, clowns could still work since they grow very slowly. A group of any of the smaller loaches (Zebra, Khuli, Yoyo) would do well in a 55.
I suspect that a horseface or a dojo loach will also be okay since they seem less active, but I'm only speculating there.
