Besides snails, crabs and shrimp what other inverts can I get for a freshwater or brackish aquarium?

That's pretty much it, there's the odd FW lobster and crayfish.
Of course they really aren't community inverts and are best left to the species tank.

I've read somewhere about fw/bw clams and anemones. Has anybody heard anything about them.

I have seen clams but by the sounds of it they are VERY hard to keep alive in a tank. THey are filter feeders and can't get enough food in an aquarium. Plus they jsut bury themselves in the sand so you never see them and if they die you can't tell untill the start fouling up your water.

I have never heard of freshwater anemones.

Hydra are the common family representative. But there are FW jellyfish, but I would imagine them to be rather tricky in captivity.

There some interesting, if a bit nasty in feeding habits, aquatic insects. Dragon fly larvae and such are interesting if not long-term residents.

Clams yes, anemones....where'd you hear that? Anemones are strictly SW.
The clams, I would NOT buy them. For one they're extremely hard to tell if they're actually alive when you buy them, second they're filter feeders are really hard to feed and keep alive...see my first point.

Edited to correct typo--you'd typed FW instead of SW for anenomes. OG

I think this is a typo, Anemones are strickly Salt water, mainly for reef tanks. Most Anemones, need bright lights and special feedings.

What about Aiptasia Anemone. Has anybody ever tried placing one in a brackish water aquarium with pc lighting?

Not to sound to sarcastic, um.. but why would someone want to have a tank filled with Aiptasia? This creature is the bane of most reef aquarists and they will breed like made and take over a tank if given half a chance. I would rather have a bad case of hair alage than these guys.

I get rid of the ones I see in my reef tank because they sting other corals. but in a brackish tank I wouldn't have any corals to worry about.

So many freshwater invertebrates: if only they were larger and more colorful ! They're the

freshwater plankton (http://www.skepticalaquarist.com/docs/plankton/plankpref.shtml) that are keeping your water clear.
