I just upgraded from a Kodak Easyshare to a Canon DSLR...I'd go DSLR all the way, and from the reviews it sounds like the "recertified" shouldn't be much of a point of concern.

the Kodak is nice, but I'd rather have a Cannon EOS Rebel XSi

Yea I saw the D40 and im kinda leaning more towards it. I really would like a DSLR so I can change out teh lenses and take either awesome wide angles or very clear close ups.

canon xs or pentax k200d

skip the nikon. stupid nikon not putting a focusing motor into the body. means all "old" lenses will be manual focus only. not the best thing in the world. pentax can use ANY pentax lens ever made. canon makes a great camera.

skip the kodak and/or fuji. i had a fuji s5200. it was a great camera, but my pentax bodies are 2000x the camera the fuji is.

d40 is $446 at adorama
canon xti (refurb) is $369 at adorama
canon xs is $456 at amazon.
pentax k200 is $559 at amazon.

though, if your choice is between the d40, kodak, and fuji ONLY, go with the d40. you'll be much happier.
