I've been fighting a water problem in my tank, just about got it under control, but the back of my arowana's gills are fanned out. I'm gonna try to attach a pic (haven't had much luck with attachments). I think it's due to the water issue from last week but while my one oscar, who is the one who signaled the problem, has gotten better, the arowana hasn't changed. He's acting fine but I just want to make sure the gills will go back down. Any help is appreciated.

you have to keep up with the water changes. did it get to the harder gill plate yet or is it just the flap part if its still the soft part the guys are arofanatics would message it back or cut it off. probably nothing you can do now-sorry.

sorry to butt in, but what is happening? what does a hardened gill plate cause to happen to it?

An arowana has an area behind the hard plate that is soft. This area is fanning out instead of laying flat on the body. See the pic and you'll see the fanning out of this area. Just trying to make sure this is due to the water issue I have and that it will eventually go back.

its because of bad water mine did that and it just stays like it, so you gotta keep the water clean so it dosent get worse

So you're saying it will stay that way? Seems there should be something that can be done.

yea it will stay that way, mine has one gill like that because i didnt cycle the tank he is in but my mom wanted him in the new tank now or else its going back and since it was an awesome tank i had to put him in and just did daily water changes but didnt do it for 2 days or so and i fed him a mouse so the water got pretty messed up and it led to the gill curl. -john
PS dont be surprised if the balas vanish after a few months hahah. or atleast they would if my fish was there
