The build I’m working on right now is a custom five foot tank that is 17” wide by 20” high. What Koralia’s should I use in this tank…3’s or 4’s? Thanks.

4's without a doubt for a 5' long tank. #4 is actually just right for a 4' tank, so it may actually be a little underpowered for a 5', but still, I would go with a 4 because the next step up, the magnum koralias, are quite a jump in price.

Picked up two K4’s today and tried them out in my 46 g bowfront. Should be just fine for the five foot tank. I actually left one in the 46 to clear up a little cyano I have going on.

If the K4’s are not putting out enough in the five footer, once I get it set up, I could always do that Sure Flow 1600 kit modification to the K4’s. Some say it doubles the flow.

They have mods for the k4s now? Where did you see those at?

I think this first came out on ReefCentral where you buy the Sure Flow 1600 kit and take the black impeller and put it in the K4, using the K4 shaft, and viola, a mega K4 powerhead. The white one doesn’t work unless you cut it down. I actually saw a demonstration of this mod at one of our local meetings. Very impressive! The kit cost about 15 clams online with shipping costs.

Here is the link to the actual RC directions:

I have one of those kits. I will have to look to see if the white impellor is still around, I think I threw it away. If I didn't I am going to shave it down and try it in one of my 4s. Thanks for the info.
