I have a 29 gallon tank. My cichlids are moving out into a 55 and new freshwater moving in. Any ideas for decor, fish, plants would be great. Or maybe I should just turn it into saltwater. What do you think?

Saltwater! It would be perfect with some live rock and one frogfish. ;)

For a FW tank, you might have fun setting up a species only tank, or try breeding something like bristlenose. Or, 2-3 South American puffers, planted. Or make a paludrium with some newts, a few fish, and some hermit crabs....Lots of choices!

IT really depends on your budget and what you think you can handle. You could try a plant tank, with livebearers, a brackish tank with a few knight gobies and mollies, or even a small reef tank with a few fish. A 29 gallon is a nice size tank but you can only go with so much. Probably you can make it an exciting tank with the many possiblities. Like I said, it all boils down to budget and how much work you want to do on a daily, weekly and monthly routine.

I would suggest a planted tank since they always look nicer to me, but you could try a marine tank or maybe rainbowfish. You could try and breed a lot of amano shrimp if you wanted.
The list goes on....

i agree w/ oriongirl...expand your horizons and try something new. you should research some newts and set up a tank for them. ive had a pair of paddletail newts for about 4 years now, and theyve been great. ive had a lot of fun experimenting w/ their setup and whatnot. but as far as fish go, id say try to setup a tank to try and breed a certain fish that youve always wanted to, or setup an amazon basin tank, or an asian tank...something with a theme.

I've always been partial to livebearers and tetras myself. If you go with tetras, make sure to choose one kind and get a nice little school going. If wanting to breed livebearers, you might want to look into getting a spare little 2 gal. to raise the fry. Good luck, and no matter what you choose, make sure it's something you will enjoy caring for!
