If the stars and planets were in proper alignment is it possible that my flowerhorn and Jack Dempsey would mate?
Jack used to beat on said flower horn when ever he saw him. Now they hudlle around each other all the time with that romantic look in their eyes :).
Is it physically possible for these fish to breed?

ive never heard of FH breeding but there are always circumstances and exceptions. normally FH are so aggressive they wont allow other tankmates in the tank for very long. but in your case we may have an exception.
first of all how big are they?
are you sure its a FH and not a trimac?
But different species of fish cross-breed, take for instance your FH it is a hybrid itself. it would be very interesting to see if they actually breed.
It is possible for them to breed, IMO.

They are both 5 inches and the FH (It's definitely a FH) is less than a year old.
I will wait and see what happens :).

I'd imagine at that size, they would breed...but as the flowerhorn gets larger, it will become more intolerant of other, even a mate, tankmates unless you are housing it in a very large aquarium.

Both Dampsey and FH are CA and there is no reason why they won't cross breed given the right condition. All CAs will cross breed readily even externally they may look dissimilar.
