Well my wife got me the Korilla wavemaker with Korilla 3s for christmas. I looked at the boxes and it said Korilla 3 so I put them in the tank. I was not super impressed with the pumps, but they were nice. Today I working on my tank and realized that the 3s have the same impellor as the old 2s. Then the dim light in my head lit up bright and I looked at the sticker on the pumps. Korilla 2s!! :swear: I about blew a gasket!! I went and tracked down the box they came in and yes they say 3s. Anyways I called Dr fosters and they are going to get ahold of Hydor and get me the right pumps so now I sit and wait. The moral of the story, check the pumps and not the boxes or you could end up with a nano instead of a 4 (I know, there is a big difference between the two). Too bad I didn't end up with 4s instead of 2s, but thats my luck.

Very odd.. if it were a store front I would say some customer pulled a scam switching them out, but since they came from Dr Fos that shouldn't have been the case. You did get the 3's that work on the wavemaker vs the normal 3's (well 2's now) right? I couldn't justify the cost of the controller + having to buy new powerheads. I have 3's now, but would need different "adjustable" 3's that work on wavemakers vs the non wavemaker versions. Normal 3's run $39.99 (http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewItem.aspx?category=Hydor_Koralia_Circulatio n_Pump_Powerhead_UL__Saltwater_Aquarium_Supplies_P owerheads_Fixed_Flow&vendor=Hydor&SearchStr=hd19501+hd19401+hd19301+hd19201+hd19101&action=view&idProduct=HD19101&idCategory=FIPHFF), but controllable 3's run $52.99 (http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewItem~category~Hydor_Koralia_3_Controllable_ Pump_Powerhead_Saltwater_Aquarium_Supplies_Powerhe ads_Adjustable_Flow~vendor~Hydor~SearchStr~koralia %2ccontrollable~action~view~idProduct~HD00592~idCa tegory~FIPHAD.html), on top of the $289.99 controller (http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewItem~category~Hydor_Koralia_Wavemaker_Contr oller_2_Way_Basic_(for_Controllable_Koralia_Pumps) _Saltwater_Aquarium_Supplies_Wavemakers_External~v endor~Hydor~SearchStr~koralia%2ccontrollable~actio n~view~idProduct~HD00588~idCategory~FIWMEW.html) for the basic 2way controller to make them work..

My wife got me the controllable ones. I like them with the exception of they were the twos instead of the threes. I thought about a vortech, but wanted to be able to have the option of hitting different areas of the aquarium with 2 different pumps and I wasn't about to spend big money on a used pump because the way my luck goes it would die in a month I would have a really expensive piece o' junk.

I hear you about the vortechs.. biggest drawback is the fact you cant angle them, on top of the $400 price tag. Used Tunze's seem to be the best deal because older ones are much better built that newer ones.. I personally don't like how big they are in the tank, as big or bigger than koralias for 8x the price. I know about 20 reefers that bought new Tunze powerheads in the last 12 months, ALL of them have died, were as I know others that bought used ones, or have ones running for many years, and no problems. Tunze's quality control went into the trash last year it seems.

Just wanted to make sure you got the controllable ones.. I was pretty sure you did since it was a package deal, but the one time I didn't mention it would be the one time someone didn't know there were different ones and end up spending a lot of money on a wavemaker that didn't work right. ;)

Yeah I think I would have been really mad (not that I'm real happy right now) if I got the regular korilas rather than the controllable ones. I also got the night sensor with it and I like that as well. My fish like not swimming like crazy after dinner, I did have a 3 and 4 in there (50 gal) and the poor fish would swim like crazy trying to get to food, now I hit the feed button and the food doesn't swirl around the tank like it is caught in a tornado. My marine betta would go after food and if the food blew across the tank before he got it he would go back to his cave and pout and would not eat so he is happier now.
