I wanna get into some floating plants for a beginner. I was looking at the water lettuce and was wondering does it need a calm surface to thrive on?

I have my 1500gph pump shooting half the current at the surface for agitation and the other half shooting in the tank. I only have 2 24" lights on this tank so would they be ok being under a 15watt T8 light?

If surface need to be clam I am sure i can build something to enclose them in. Also I have goldfish, tin foils, balas and plecos in my tank, how will the roots fair?

The water lettuce might go under the water shooting into the tank and that might kill them if they do that all day. You should just build an enclosure to keep them corraled in. I'm not sure how the roots will do.

I have TONS of it growing in my 55 & have an AC 70.
It spins around a bit, & occasionally goes underwater, but is still fine

Hi moko I was reading ur other water lettuce threads. If I remember u have like 93 watts over the 55? My 2 lights are originally from my 55gallon. Do you think if I help them in place under the light they would grow?

Well then it will definetly be fine in your tank. The goldfish might pick at it at first, but after they realize it's not edible, they'll stop.

I say give it a shot!
I had fantastic growth when I was just using 64 watts before upping it to 96

IME this stuff grows under ANY circumstances. I have it in every tank in my house, regardless of what the light/filtration is. In my 125, when the water level drops, it starts getting shot down into the water and then it jsut floats back to the top. Sometimes it gets jumbled into a big mass, but when I add more water again it all spreads back out.
