Washing gravel (me again!)

I just bought some river pebbles from a hardware store. They came in bags which were being stored outside in the gardening section. The pebbles were dirty and a bit wet inside the bag but it's nothing that rinsing won't fix. My question is... when these rocks are collected and bagged I assume that they have been taken from the river and that nothing has been done to disinfect them or anything. So, should I take precautions such as bleaching the gravel before putting them in the aquarium?

I buy these from the hardware store myself and have only ever rinsed them well with water to get all the dirt off. Never had any problems....
