View Full Version : Best Up-To-Date Book for Setting up a High-Tech Plant Tank?
I've read about some of the Amano books and it seems these are good for photos but not information on how to do it.
Can anyone recommend an excellent up-to-date book for setting up a 90g tank? Thanks.

'Ecology of the Planted Aquarium,' Diane Walstad
I don't own that book, but from what I can recall on it, that is the wrong book to get. That book is a LOW TECH book.
ie: soil, natural sunlight, low light, fish food/waste as the nutrient source etc.

^Agreed..that book is the farthest from high tech you can get. I do own the book and have read it. I must say, her methods, though interesting, are far from conventional and aren't recommended at all if you want a well manicured tank.
Your best source of info for the kind of tank you want is at the aquabotanic forums. You'll find much more info there than in any one book. http://aquabotanicwetthumb.infopop.cc/6/ubb.x?a=cfrm&s=4006090712

And aquariacentral. There are a lot of very knowledgeable people around here who can help. If you haven't read www.skepticalaquarist.com or www.thekrib.com there is a ton of good information on just about every issue imaginable.

Also see the APD archives.

Excellent! Thanks to everyone for the great info.
Slappy -- love the name and avatar.
I'm really going all out (at least I think I am) in terms of buying the right kind of tank (starphire glass 36"x24"24", braceless, with smoked glass back), Dupla cable system, automated CO2, T5 lighting, etc.
And I want to be certain to aquascape the tank right. I love the way Amano sets up his tanks. It doesn't seem he has too many species in a given tank, but the small leafed foreground plants, with a few striking large plants seems to really work, although I'm sure it requires frequent grooming.
In particular, I like the big hunk of driftwood with dense carpeting plants. I'd love to stick some Altums in such a set-up.

Thanks. If Amano's work is your inspiration, then I recommend this site: http://www.vectrapoint.com/main/infocentral.html#anchor1139340
That's a terrific site. Thanks.
I also really like a nice this tank's layout (Dutch):

Yes, Frode Roe is one of the best Dutch style aquascapers out there. Funny you should post that link..I was going to add that link to my previous post, but decided not to.
