Without a picture it's a difficult to tell. Hydra is very possible. It's pretty harmless, unless you just hate the idea to have something in your tank you didn't invite. :)
will my pleco eat them? they are definantly not any type of algea so they must be an organism

Just scrape it off the rock and put it on a sandwich Hans. It might taste great, just like fish.
why dont i stick your head in my tank for a few minutes until you stop kickin so you get a good look at it :)

If they are hydras indeed, I don't know if plecos are gonna eat them. Gouramies are well known hydra eaters. Not so sure with black mollies though.
However, can you see any kind of small tentacles? That would confirm that those really are hydras.

It sounds like hydra to me. Do you feed live foods? Are there fry in the tank? If it is hydra you can eliminate them by eliminating their food source.

Hans, do they look like jelly fish attached to the glass?
doing a little more maintenance and cleaning would help a bit. vacuuming the gravel thoroughly and changing the water should help remove the food source.
you might want to look around at www.thekrib.com or www.skepticalaquarist.com for more suggestions.
i'm beginning to sense a bored little troll lurking..........

Hans, have a look at the very first post of mine and tell me if it looks like those things.

(not quite sure how to include a link to a post)
If it is, I got rid of the problem (no website or book has given me any ideas about what it is) by drastically demolishing the tank. I had the problem appear in my smallest tank a little later and found that the easiest way to combat it is to regularly clean all surfaces. It doesn't seem to go away unless you start the tank from scratch though.
Whatever it was doesn't seem to effect the fish but my pleco seems to enjoy grazing on them (so must be vegetable matter).
I hope for your sake that you have something different.
