I have 2 ghost shrimp that are carrying eggs. I put them in a 10 gallon with only ghost shrimp and 2 algae eaters. I was expecting them to have babies that looked like them. I was really surprised when the babies looked like very small fish. They swim all over the tank. I put a piece of panty hose over my filter intake to keep from sucking them up. They are only 3 days old now and more seem to be popping out every day. I have seen the little ones very close to the adult shrimp and the adults leave them alone (at least while I'm watching :) ).

woh!! cool. i've been trying to get my ghost shrimp to have babies for months, but i think they all just get eaten or sucked into the filter no matter i do. your plan sounds like a good one. let us know what happens!!! i've always heard that sponge filters worked well for raising them.

do ghost shrimp do the same stuff as amano shrimp? what's the difference? which is better for aquariums? cuz i heard amano shrimp were really hard to breed and raise the fry. ghost shrimp sound pretty easy...

from my reading they aren't anywhere near easy. i used to have a bunch and they never bred that i noticed. you should be able to websearch breeding references, i did it a long time ago because any kind of shrimp are pretty rare around here.
From what I have read amano's have 1000 to 2000 eggs at once. My ghost shimp have 20-30 at a time and the females carry them for 3 weeks so the ghost shrimp are much larger when the female releases them and can eat larger food. Also the amano babies need brackish water.

i guess that makes sense then that the amano babies would be harder to raise--cuz they need brackish water and they're a ton smaller so they're harder to feed. thanks
