Hi i am new to this board, and would like to get some advise on re-equiping my 100 gal. tank after a long distance move. The tank was set up for 12 years and was equipped with a whisper 3 power filter/ undergravel filter with 2 power heads,/ a ebo-jaeger 250 watt heater. everything was running great for 12 years, and now upon moving and tearing down the tank, i have found the need to replace the 12 year old whisper filter, and i want to eliminate the undergravel filter and power heads. I have been shopping and have found several filter choices out there and i am confused on which product to buy. Since i will be eliminating the under gravel filter[ it was in need of replacement] I want to buy a power filter that is sufficient for my 100 gal. I have been looking at the tetra-tech 500 filter which says it is for tanks up to 100 gal.and also has an optional heater insert [ the 200] which fits the tetra-tech 500 but says it is optimum for tanks up to 60 gal.] How well does this filter work WITHOUT the undergravel filter and is the heater insert worth buying ? I really don't want to go with a fluval type filter.
thanks in advance:confused:

get an aquaclear hang on filter. the AC500s are rated for 100 gallon tanks but your better off getting 2, they are less than 30 dollars anyways. or get 2 marineland emperor 400s they are hang ons and have bio wheels so you done need the undergravel. cost more than the aquaclears but they have the wheels. im trying to convert all my tanks right now to wet/drys or emperors. buy them from www.bigalsonline.com
