I have all of a sudden began to see some spider-web looking substance in my marine tank that is white in color and seems to be coming off of some of the live rock. Can anybody shed some light on my problem?

I believe it is a type of worm, it shoots that web out to catch food in the water column. Could be wrong though. :)

Does it happen when you stir up debris? Vermetid snails (http://www.reefs.org/hhfaq/pages/picture_pages/faq_vermetid.html) send out strands of mucus to collect food from the water.
