Different tank, though. My previous kuhli breedings have all been in the planted 40 at home, with the black kuhli's going from 2 to the latest count of around 8-9.
This morning, I noticed the striped kuhli loaches here at work doing quite a dance, and took the time to inspect them. The female was obviously heavy with eggs--she's about twice the diameter of the male, and there's a noticably green tint to her belly. She swam all over the tank for about an hour after the lights came on, and every time she paused to rest the male would scurry over and twine around her. Without pulling apart the tank, it seems she made a little nest under the driftwood in the tank (sand bottom with anubias roots growing down into it from the wood), laid the eggs, and he scurried in after she left. I can't see anything but his nose sticking out now, and she's lost that green glow and slimmed down.
Tank is 5 gallons, 1.5 gallon water change done weekly with slightly warmer water most recently on Friday. Tank temp is 74-76. No ferts, has 3 anubias and a cluster of green crypts. Lights are on for about 9 hours a day. Sand bottom. Other tank mates include a pair of dwarf gourami and 3 other striped kuhlis--total of 7 fish, and a few snails. pH of 7.3--not sure on hardness, but I'd guess fairly low since the crypt gets cranky often. Feeding blood worms and algae tabs, occassional flake, and I know the kuhli's will dine on snails eggs when they find them.
Not sure if this effort will be successful, but they are trying. I'll let you know if I see any little wrigglers--in this tank at least, they shouldn't be able to hide from me for so long!
