Why do they destroy plants?

why is the sky blue....
some don't some do
some eat them.
some dig in the substrate as part of their breeding habits which uproot the plants.
some are pissy
some need plants to breed
some need plants to feel safe
theres about a billion cichlids and all of them interactwith their environments differantly.
