I have a good amount of extra profile (dusty flourite-like substrate) and want to add it to a 35 gallon tank I have. Emptying the tank and fish is not an option.

I was thinking I could possibly use ziploc bags to add sections at a time. I could open the bottom and let the profile out of the bag while the dust stays contained until it settles.

Any thoughts on this idea or other possible solutions?

if you really rinsed the dust off u could possibly use that way (i think) or use a fine mesh old net, its not a bad idea though, try doin a part water change after though that will help the discolouring a bit 2

Good idea about the waterchange. The stuff is really dusty so I will keep giving it thorough rinsing but it still seems to cloud the water just as much.

If I do get the water cloudy will that hurt the fish?

not really just irritatingfrom our point of view but there are plenty of things u can add to the water to make it less cloudy also add filter wool to your filters its excellent for helping cloudy water

Funny that you mention products to make the water clear up. I think I have a pretty old bottle of some kind of product like that. Pretty sure it's called accu-clear. Now I'm wondering if it's too old or if it might actually help.

Edit: Read the bottle it says do not use by 2002. Too old I guess I bet it would have helped.

Try to never use 'water clarifiers'.. Instead a Vortex Diatom filter would be the best way to clear out the water column. This filter will actually filter out Ich in the 'swimming stage'. Tthe filter is designed for ocassional use, and works extremely well! HTH

Joe I am curious as to why you say try to never use water clarifiers. I have used this Accu-Clear product many times in the past and never had a problem. It says on the bottle safe for fish & plants.
