I have recently set up a new larger tank for my goldfish 150x50x70 and changed over from gravel to sand, my normal gravel cleaner is not long enough and neither is my arm, Can any of you recommend a sand cleaner that will reach. remember I have to be able to buy it in the UK or by post?

I use clear flexible hosing to clean the sand in my tanks. The end never touches the sand, but just a bit above it, and the smaller diameter works very well. Most home supply places should sell this, as well as many fish stores. I have about 30 feet that I use. If you can't reach to the depth needed, you can attach a wood dowel to the outside of the tube so it will be stiff enough to easily direct.

Thanks, but does that mean you have to suck the hose to get the water going, I have done that before today and got a mouthful of dirty water yuk

Even if you have to suck the hose to get it started, if the hose is clear, you can see the water coming and remove your mouth before the water gets there.:p

I know, Its just Iv had one with a hand punp so you do not have to suck water up the only problem is it will not reach the bottom of the new tank, maybe if I get the new hose I might be able to make it bigger?

You can just submerge the hose in the tank enough to fill it with water--doesn't have to be all of it, just enough to go from the top of the tank til about 18 below the surface. Put your thumb over the part inside the tank, direct the other end, remove thumb. Water will flow. Works fine.
