Hello all...lol I have already kind of posted this once, but i thought i would again because now i am kind of worried. Im into week 2.5 in my cycle and in a 440 gallon tank with 10 fish. The bio-filter hasnt seemed to kick in yet. Does anyone know how long it will take or how to clean up my tank a bit faster. I realize that bigger tanks equal longer cycling time, but nonetheless. Any help would be appreciated.

what kind of fish are you using to cycle? also look into Bio-Spira, you'll spend a lot on it for such a big tank, but it is well worth it in the end. I believe it is made by MarineLand. Anyhow it's live bacteria.

Did you say 440 gallons ?

If you are using fish like zebra danios, you might need more than ten.

Yeah... if you have only 10 fish in a 440 gallon tank, it will take while to develop a sufficient concentration of ammonia to get much of a biofilter. Too bad you have fish already... this is a situation that would benefit from fishless cycling.

I have ten pretty decent-sized Tilapia...Just curious, how could i do this with fishless cycling? Through commercial bacteria like Bio-spira? And how come it would be better? Also, anyone into Hyrdoponics? I do some, but would like to do more.

I believe there is a sticky on fishless cycling in the main freshwater forum. That should do a better job of explaining it than I can.
