I'm at the end of treatment for my platies that came down with ick. A friend of mine told me to get a new filter after treating (yes, I took the filter out during treatment, but left the pump running), but do I need a new one or can I use the old one?

I would put a new filter cartridge in, one with carbon to remove the ich medicine. Also, do about a 40% water change to help remove the meds.
Wait! If you took out the filter, then it wasn't treated. Make sure you bleach it all out & then rinse really, really, well before you put it back in, including any media like sponges.

No, the person used the wrong word I believe, they said filter meaning the media, but they left the filter running.
