I know it may sound wierd, but i am wondering how you clean sand in an aquarium:rolleyes:. It seems to me like if you used a normal siphon that it would suck up all the sand. I have never used sand in any of my aquariums, but i am thinking about getting a smaller aquarium today and i am going to put sand in it. Is there any special method you guys use to clean sand? thanks:)

Depends on what type of sand you have. Some are heavy enough to stay on the bottom, rather than floating around.

I have sand that is a bigger grain than say "play sand" and syphon things out with ease

I've heard it's pretty easy to clean sand. All you have to do is hover the siphon over it (about an inch) and it will pick up all the junk but leave the sand in place.

ok good because i didnt want to have to go out and buy a whole new cleaning system just for sand, since im just thinking about putting it in one aquarium.

Make sure the sand is heavy enough so that it won't get sucked up really easy, and just hover the siphon right above the threshold of where the sand gets picked up.

You will always pick up some sand.
