I have a whole bunch of cardamine lyrata (aka japanese water cress), and they are not doing very well in my tank. The problem is that I have quite a current in my tank and my lighting is not as good as it should be.

So I was wondering, would it be helpful to remove some of the plants and put them in a sunny place with no current, say a 1g betta bowl? I could put the plant in there with some tank water and maybe some food to feed the plants. I hope they would toughen up enough that I could reintroduce them into my tank and they would be able to survive and maybe even thrive now that they are bigger & tougher.

Would this work??

you would get stronger plants that way but they would still have to adjust to the lower light and current... as long as the current is not so strong as to flatten the plants or break them off it should be ok... some plants just won't grow in less than a cirtain amount of light though, I got a substitute plant on a order I made(I ordered all low light plants) that needs high light and it just died in my tanks even though I put it in the best possible spot

Well the plant hasn't died and it's been in there for months. But it breaks, so I figured it was because of the current. You don't think a thicker plant would stand a better chance?

If you condition the plant and return it to the original tank, its new growth will just be like it was before.

If it's really a problem, try moving it to another tank, or sell it to a friend.
