Ok, I've kept my 6gallon at around 5ppm of ammonia for about two weeks and I have no sign of NitrItes. Is this how long it normally takes?
And also, what is the ideal range for water hardness (GH) in a freshwater tank because mine is reading at 150ppm. All other readings are within their ideal or "safe" range.

The nitrites are usually the latecomers to the party. Keep it up--it will get there. Once the ammonia starts going down, the nitrites are not too far behind. Has the pH been stable?

As with pH, hardness ranges with the fish you want to keep. Some prefer hard water, while other like the soft stuff. Most fish will acclimate to a variety of conditions--stability is always more important that specific ranges.

I just cycles an Eclypse six for my son. It took about three weeks for the nitrites to come in. Hnag in there, they're comin.
