View Full Version : How to clear up cloudy water?

I just started my fiddler crab tank and it, obviously, got cloudy when I dumped the water in because of the crap from the gravel. Well, it's been a couple days and it's still cloudy. I used some crystal clear from Petsmart last night, but it doesn't seem to be any better.

Anything else I can do/use to clear it up? -_-

I wouldn't use that clear up stuff. Everyone seems to say it will lead to algae. Plus your problem is just particles in the water column. Try stuffing you filter with filter floss and turning it to max speed setting (if possible). This will help clear things up much faster. Otherwise just wait it out, things will settle down.

This tank does not have a filter. It is only 1/2 filled w/water. This is a fiddler crab tank :)

Well I guess it will be a waiting game. If you do some more frequent water changes this will help eliminate more of the debris in the water. Also try pouring the new water onto a plate or big rock instead of lettingit hit the gravel directly. This will help eliminate a lot of the cloudiness

Gotta rinse the gravel well, before adding it to your tank.

Fiddler crabs will benefit from filtration. I recommend adding a small internal filter, like a Shark, or the small TetraTec filter. Not only will the filter act as a biological filtration (ammonia and nitrites occur with fiddlers as well as fish), but it will trap debris for easy removal. And, the water movement will help reduce algae buildup and keep the water oxygenated. It will reduce the cloudiness from suspended particles as well.
