I plan on getting a 30 gallon eventually. What brand of powerhead do you use/prefer? Are there any to avoid? I was thinking either AquaClear, Penguin or Maxi-jet, but I'd appreciate some input.

I only use Maxi-jets.

Not sure on others. I stay with what has worked for me.

Interesting! Thank you! Any other opinions? I always like to get as many as possible ... :)

Depends on what you need it for. For driving a sponge filter or RFUG filter, or if you need the venturi function, penguins are my favorite. If you just want increased flow, I'm a huge fan of the Koralias.

Just to increase flow. I want to have a couple of bamboo shrimp, and they filter feed in front of flow.

I'd probably use a Koralia 1, myself. I like the fact that the flow is more dispersed rather than a straight jet coming out. They are also very difficult to clog (I have messy fish).

:iagree::iagree: if you just want to move water then go for Koralia

I hear korelias make a very wide flow though. I wonder if the Bamboos would like a more narrow stream?

Good thread, have been toying with aquiring a power head myself, strictly for water movement and future for CO2 dispersal.

Submersable, Mag Drive, preferances ! ! !
