Was thinking about setting up a tank around a red-tail shark and was wondering what the best tank size would be. The tank will prob not have real plants, not right away anyway.

The best tank size is ALWAYS as big as you can afford!
(Just doubled my gallonage.... and then some!)

ok i guess i should have asked what tank size could i get away with using.was thinking about a 29 but not sure if this would be big enough

A 29 would be large enough for a RTS, along with a few other fish. RTS tend to be territorial, but if you can give the fish a good cave to claim, then most will content themselves with keeping others out of that spot, rather than the entire tank. Avoid tank mates that are similarly shaped (ie, no other sharks, no CAE or SAE). A school of medium sized tetras and a group of cories should be fine.
My brother just setup a 29 gallon for his RTS. It has lived with both cories and loaches in its teritory and been fine. Previously it was in a 10 gallon (The LFS said that was fine) but eventually the things just looked crammed in.

Yes, I am agreement with everyone else here, 29 gallons and up. I personally give him a heavely planted tank with a pile of drift wood to hide under. I myself prefer 30 gallon tanks over the 29. I prefer the length over the height.

I just bought a NICE looking 32 gal aquarium. "rimless" Hagen all glass. They are 'new' (at least in my area) on the market and lots of people are reccommending them. Also i got a light-glo canopy with two bulb sockets also by Hagen. Fancy shmancy compared to my old basic 20 gal. I have yet to get it all set up, but so far it looks good just sitting empty in my room! :D

I have a 28 gal hagen from i'd say the mid- 80's. It has beige rims but it should look better once i get stuff put back in it.
