First, you gotta get it..

You know it's heavy (real heavy), and you place it where the other tank was... (meaning, double the work..) This is a 'long' tank!

Discus' temporary' home... Climate controlled, of course. Extra bin has the extra R/O water needed for the change-over.

I'm guessing they weren't too happy..

We had a visitor... must be the R/O water.. :)

The Discus didn't seem happy yet. There was no background on at the time.

Almost finished!! :dance

Let's see.... Lotto permitting?!?! :D
Actually, 21" or 22" is the maximum depth for 'aquascaping'.. At least for me! As I look behind me, I still can't believe how large this tank is!! It's soooo nice......! :D

Water change are even easier, as now it takes a water pump rather than the 5 gallon bucket method!! I got one (actually 2 now) of those sturdy new trash bins (as in pics) with wheels on it! Just drop the pump in, put hose in tank and turn it on...

I like the pic of the tank in the truck. Makes it look like a 8'er. What a sight to behold.

Man am I jealous.

Oooh, I didn't know these pics were here. Excellent! I don't check DIY too often, glad I did. Thanks, Joe. Hope the discus are recovering from their ordeal, poor things.

Your old tank was beautiful, your new tank is beautiful, I'm lost in perspective. So, looking at your new tank, left to right, about where on the landscape would the old tank have ended? I know other dimensions are different, too, I just want to get some visual idea.

Correct me if I'm wrong, the old tank was 4' and the new is 6'? So squeeze the left side in a foot and the right side too. For some reason I feel compelled to get kveeti an answer A.S.A.P..
And you know, "125gJoe" sounds right!
Beautiful!!

I'm a woodworker ready to get back into Fish hobby after more years than I'll admit. Did you build stand???

Many years ago I had built 50 gal. plywood tank. Kept fish in it for four years when Navy transferred me from Chicago to Hawaii.

Thanks
Martin

Thanks Kveeti!
The new tank is 2 feet longer than the 80 gallon, but for some reason it looks lots longer.. :D
It's my 'fantasy show' tank! The set-up of it went much better than I thought. The Discus, SAE's and Rasboras were "timid" for only a short time... ..not bad at all. I'm guessing using the 80 gallon water, mixed with new R/O water at the right temperature did the trick! Hardly any sign of stress...

fmcgrump,
No I didn't make the stand. Supposedly All Glass Co. made the stand. I don't have the talent for that.

Thanks, chefkeith and beviking..

I'm not sure, but that will have to stick....
:D ..or 125jeezzJoe... like 'big enough?'

..and it is the limit for me... :)

Joe, what additional filter(s) do you have on the tank?

(Did I miss something in Tank Specs?)

125jeezzJoe! I like it!!!

Just out of curiosity, did you think of getting a 150gal? Isn't it the same footprint only taller? Are there reasons you didn't opt for it if you did think of it (other than $)?
I'm contemplating (=trying to convince my wife) about a 125 but why not go 150? 6' X 18" is my footprint limit too, but why not go a little taller?

Lighing/tank depth is an issue in planted tanks..the deeper the tank, the less light gets to the bottom of the tank. Shallow tanks are more desirable...though money might have something to do with it too:)..not to mention, having to reach further inside the tank to clean it.

Like Slappy said..
I need to be able to reach in and to get to the plants when needed. I did consider the 150.. It's also nice to have access to the back of the tank. It's set up at an angle which is a perfect position for the living room.

Brilliant tank! Quite an entertaining scrapbook of photos. What kinda background are you gonna use? Recently saw a DIY where they used real rock, egg cartons and plexiglass to make a stunning backdrop.

Boy, you go away for a week and look what you miss. Like Kveets said "Excellent! I don't check DIY too often, glad I did. " I'm glad I saw this title in 'who's online'

Beautifull Joe. I have been waiting with baited breath for these pics. Well worth the wait!

How did you get the tank so clear so soon after planting? Did you diatom filter the tank after planting?

Thanks Matak! Hope your trip went well...

I did run the Vortex XL for awhile. The tank is still crystal clear - even from side to side (6 feet..)............... :D

I must also credit the extra Rena Filstar xP-3!

I'll try and keep some updated pics going from time to time, but I don't want to stress out the bandwidth here.. LOL :D

Oh yeah, I got the new Custom SeaLife hood. 4 X 96 watts at 8800K with 6 MoonLites built-in!! It looks better than I thought.. Can't take a pic with just the MoonLites going. Need a better cam..

......this tank is big...

The Freshwater Forum moves quick so here's a link to the 125g in that Forum in case you didn't click over there..
