Well, I inherited 11 neon tetras today... the are little about 1/2 an inch...

which now gives me:
7 Zebra Danios (1 inch)
3 Diamond Tetra (1 1/4")
5 Albino Cory cats (1 to 1 1/2")
2 Bala Sharks (1 3/4 to 2")
2 Rosbara scissor tails (1 1/2")
1 Plecostomus (1 1/2")
6 Ghost Shrimp ( 1/4 to 1")
11 neon teters ( 1/2")

I feel I am fine for the time being, I know the Balas will be moving to a bigger tank when the reach 4" or so as will the pleco...

Should I add another HOB w/ bio wheel(s) onto the tank for good measure?

----
We got another surprise pet (hamster) not too long ago also... people just stop wanting their pets :shake: and give them to us...

My home:
4 indoor cats
1 outside cat
2 dogs (American Greyhound & Siberian Huskie)
2 Guenia pigs ( there went my 30 gallon tank)
2 Hermit crabs ( and lost my 10 gal to them)
55 gal aquarium

We are FULL!

The balas will have to move, you are right. Assuming you are doing good water changes and keeping the ammonia/nitrite/nitrate levels low then things should be fine.

That pleco might be a bit of a problem in the future though. Is it a common? They can get to be 2 feet long and produce tons of waste.

I stay on top of the water conditions, amonia 0, nitrites 0, and nitrate levels rise to 20ppm just before teh weekly water change...

The pleco is common, and will be moving with the Balas.

Diet for them. Flakes every AM, with 2 shrimp pellets. Evening is flakes & 2-3 shrimp pellets even days and blood worms on odd days. (I make sure that even though I feed twice a day, not to over feed). As they pleco and cories grow, I will probably need to increase the shrimp pellets accordingly.

I really don't think you are that overstocked. You seem to have a good knowledge of all the fish in your tank and how to keep it healthy. Especially considering you do weekly water changes you should be fine. That pleco will get really big yes but it should be able to stay in the tank for a while.

I was thinking the same thing about the shrimp pellets so I don't know if there is much people can really tell you that you don't already know.

Yeah, sounds good to me. I also have a complete sinking tablet made by tetra that I drop in for my cories. I didn't want them to have too high of a protein diet.

It will probably take well over a year before that pleco gets too big. I don't know how fast balas grow though.

If my last balas were any indication, they grew from 1 1/2" to 3-4 inches in one year, then they slowed down some and it took about another 2 years to reach 6-7" (thats when the disaster occured and they passed away :( )

So I figure I have 18-24 months to move the balas, the pleco (if it's like my last one) will have to be moved about the same time, probably closer to 18 months...

I'm going to order a second penguin 330 for the tank, that should allow me to keep everyone in the tank happy, and at the same time allow me some more free time come January. When January comes, I'll be alot busier than now and my weekly water changes might turn into bi-weekly...
