Is anything sensitive to high iron content?

And man, wet sand is heavy...

... anways, got be a load of native sand (cleaning this stuff sucks!), and I was perusing a thread on algae eaters, and someone mentioned Amano shrimp are sensitive to high iron levels. Ye old native sand is red-brown, cause we have a high iron content in the soil. Just wanted to know what might not be a good idea to put into a tank with that.

Here's something to look into:

"Several "critical nutrients", in particular iron and some trace elements, present special problems in solving this task; they are required in only minute quantities. In larger doses their effect is toxic. In aquaria they cannot not be administered for days and weeks in advance, for example at water changes. The situation is rendered more serious if various trace elements are not only being consumed by the plants but also being precipitated by chemical reactants. This has always presented a very difficult problem in the field of aquarium keeping."

good or bad?

It may be a good thing, if you are using it for a planted tank. Many of us use laterite, an iron-rich clay, as a subsoil for plants.
