Has anyone seen any national geographic specials or animal shows etc where they film and discuss tropical fish in their natural habitats like neons angel fish even pirannahs???
i like watching these types of shows and woul be thrilled if anyone coul give some info on something they might've seen -
i remember seeing some thing a long time ago on piranahs i think but i think it woul be so interesting to see our fish in the wild interacting etc thanks!!!

Built For the Kill featured the Amazon once, had piranha and archerfish. Also saw a show featuring strange reproduction that included the splash tetra.

Beyond that... just Shark Week :P

Hey i saw that one on the splash tetra! It's where the male and female jump simultaneously out of the water in synco and deposit the eggs and sperm on a leaf above the water!
Whooo it looked so amazing.
I've also seen a couple on pirahnahs. I like watching ocean dives too, to reefs and into deep water with the weirdest fish!
Discovery channel and TLC used to be really good for those kind of shows, now they only have them once in a while in between Monster House and Monster Garage and BEAST WARS! I'm not a fan.
Librarys usually have good collections of nature videos.... if you were really interested.... :D

oh!!!

I didn't even think of the library good suggestion!!!
but if anyone has any specific titles feel free to let us know thanks

Ok, first the big important one:

Jewel of the Rift - A documentary on Lake Tanganyika - airs Dec 22nd @ 2PM EST on National Geographic channel.

As for video stuff, here's what I found:

The Blue Planet: Seas of Life Series (4 episodes)

Trials of Life (not just fish) (12 episodes)

Fish People - documentary about keeping aquariums (British, originaly on Discovery Channel) (1 episode)

Into the Depths of the Ocean - originally IMAX, reviews said not enough fish, recommended The Blue Planet (1 episode)

And then anything with the name Jacques Cousteau in it.

But Jewel of the Rift should be nice.

thanks

wippit - i'm goin to try to find some of this stuff today any one else got any titles let us know!
amazon stuff is what i really wanna see

Here's a couple of more

National Geographic's Amazon: Land of the Flooded Forest (acady award winning)

Amazon - although I don't know if you can get an OmniMAX film on regular media types.

Creatures of the Mangrove (Nat. Geo. film)

Like I said, I don't know if you can get an OmniMAX film on a regular tape of VDV, it's filmed in like 155mm and is protected on a 7-story dome. Flat screen will probably distort it.

no

i understand that i just need to know which one is the omni film so i know not to bother looking for it
