Whenever I sit down at my desk to use the computer, my convict in the tank next to the desk starts jumping out of the water and starts swimming fast. I just did a water change tonight but he is still doing it. There doesn't appear to be any health problems. Is he just trying to be funny or demanding?

so your computer is right next to your fish tank?
he could just be wanting attention, or being dramatic, but what i think it is is that your monitor on the desk is giving off Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) which is being transferred to the fish tank, when this happens (when the monitor is on) the convict freaks out, its just like a very loud continous noise for us humans. try to move the monitor and/or computer away from the tank and then see what happens. is this is the case you could put a ground probe into the fish tank to rid the tank of getting the EMI

I don't think it's the computer because when I am somewhere else in the room he is fine. It's when I sit next to the tank that he goes weird. Now he's jumping and scooping up gravel and spitting it out. He also pushes himself up against the corner of the tank and looks at me. He wants attention I think. I'm pretty new to cichlids so I'm not used to having fish want my attention I guess. I am starting to really like cichlids though.
That's exactly how my blue acaras behave when they want food(which is all the time lol). I wouldn't be too worried.

Don't worry m8, convicts are like dogs. WHen there is nobody around they are lazy and slow moving but as soon as someone comes within sight distance they want attention. That is one reason why convicts are one of my favorite fish. They are great to keep. I used to be able to pet my convict but moving him from tank to tank. I think has killed some of that trust between us but I am sure that I can regain it after all I feed him. :)
