I recently purchased a 36 gallon corner aquarium which i would like to keep as a planted tank.

Other than a new hood light what other sort of equipment would i need?

What sort of plants can i grow that are easy maintenance?

And should i look into using DIY CO2?

I'm pretty much new to plants but generally had fish tanks all my life. I'm sick of using artificial plants and would like to try natural plants but up to now i usually get overwhelmed and terribly confused whenever i've tried looking up the subject...

Probably the easiest way for you to get the info you're looking for is to go to our search engine(upper right corner of the plant page) and type in Plant Newbie, or New to Plants. Then when you come back you'll have many of your questions answered, will be better informed, and be able to ask specific questions.
We really need a sticky similar to the 'Fertilizer Info.' sticky, just for newbies to read with everyone contributing their thoughts and info. so as to inform new people a bit. Then they can be more specific with questions.
Here's a link to a great site that offers information on many different topics relating to planted tanks:

http://www.csd.net/~cgadd/aqua/articles.htm

There are articles on that page that tell how to set up a tank. On fertilization, on CO2 etc. That combined with the search engine idea above should keep you busy for a bit and definitely create a knowledge base that will probably give you even more questions to ask.

Good advice.

When you are done all that, I would suggest deciding what plants you want to keep, and set up your aquarium accordingly.

Let us know what you decide :).

With the corner tank, you'll need to be careful about coverage as well as wattage of lighting. Be sure you are in good shape with that before you go too far.
