Lava or Tufa or ?????

Just a quickie --- I'm about to order some rocks - i searched for lace rock and came across lava rock, tufa rock - is either one better than the other? better color? And I see that they are sold by size - is there any size that's better to use as a base before I add my live rock?

Also, can I add coral to my tank (not live coral, but "unlive" coral) for decoration?

When my fiancee and I set-up our first tank we purchased both tufa and lava rock for "base rock." Honestly, I would just invest the money in live rock instead. Yeah, you'll get less by weight, however, the benefits of good live rock will far outweigh using "unlive rock." Also, in my opinion (which may not count for much), I'd stay away from the dead corals. We went that route as well, the real thing is defiinetely more rewarding in the long run. Hope I could help.
