I've started a 10 gallon tank, put in eco-complete plant substrate and topped it with a layer of sand,:thm:, I will begin cycing without plants as soon as i buy distilled ammonia from publix(prob. tomorow).

Well, i have been thinking about the plant choice, and have finally decided on ordering, dwarf hair grass, blyxa japonica, HC, and some java moss or riccia to decorate a piece of driftwood.

My questions are--

will the HC survive in my tank with 28 watts of light and DIY CO2 injection.

How many units of hairgrass should i buy, I am buying from Aquabotanic.com(is this a reliable source?)I am trying to cover about 1.5 sq feet.

Suggestions on other online retailers is appreciated, oh, and should i get the overnight, or second day delivery shipping, or is the priority mail(cheap) sufficient. Will my plants die by the time they arrive? Aquabotanic headquarters is located in oregon, I live in miami Fl.

:thm::) :dive2:

1) If you have plants you need not add ammonia to cycle. Let that plants "kick-start it.
2) You have enough light.
3) Did you check out the AC selling forum??

You will see need to add a source of ammonia for the cycle to start. Having plants only helps the cycle along by using the ammonia, nitrite, nitrates. Plants don't give off ammonia to 'kick start' the cycle.

thx for the input, I guess i will first cycle the tank, then add plants nearing the end of the cycle.

You may add plants before, during, or after your cycle. Adding plants does not slow down the cycle.
