I have been thinking about adding LR to my FO tank.
My tank has been up for over a year now, and I have had good success. I use a wet/dry and external mechanical filter currently. I want to keep these filters going, but add LR as well. I really wanted to add LR for two reasons:
1. To provide a more natural looking tank and provide foraging for my angel and tangs.
2. To help use up the nitrates created by my wet-dry filter to help alleviate some minor microalgae.
I understand that I will only be able to add fully cured LR to my established system, however are there any other precautions I should be aware of?
Ideally, by adding the LR, it would allow for the spread of corraline algae to my other rock (tufa and lava). I also hope that by adding the LR I will see a reduction in microalgae. Most of my microalgae grows on top of my crushed coral gravel.
Does this sound like a good idea or am I not accounting for something?
