if i trim some of the leaves off of my red, will they grow into a new plant? My red in the community tank is nice and big and I was thinking about 'producing' another one.

If you trim off "older" leaves the plant will grow "newer" leaves.
Leaves do not produce new plants.

The crown and root ball are the 'guts' of the plant...so to support what tanker said, the leaves do not grow into new plants anymore than an oak leaf will grow into a new tree.

Leaves do not produce new plants.

I stand corrected. Watersprite leaves will produce new plants.

swords reproduce by runners, a runner will come out with babys on it once its old enough. i have seen really small 6" swords have runners so i think its more of age than size.

Most swords at one time or another will split. If the root ball gets big enough you can cut it and 'voila' sister plant.

sounds good. if I dont get a runner when I need another, I'll try a sister.

thanks
