I have mine for about 2 months now, and i am using a bio wheel with no skimmer and its been doing great (with regular waterchanges and a 3-3.5" DSB), and it eats the brown algae that grows (Nitrates are around 40-80ppm), and its the only thing in my 15gl aquarium. But what the info says is true, it will eat anything thats in there (it even eats to copods on the aquarium glass, and the algae with a reddish tint)
