Skimmer or Filter?

For a good skimmer I recommend this one (http://www.marinedepot.com/a_ps_ac_remora_info.asp?CartId=)

For a good filter I recommend A Aqua Clear 200 (I have a AC 300 on my 55g)

For good Powerheads I use Maxi-Jet 1200

For all your basic Biological filtration your Live Rock will take care of that and to keep your clownfish (Nemo) happy I would suggest you get a good VHO (Very High Output) or MH (Metal Halide) lighting system (depending on the size of your wallet) and then purchase an anemone

For a 30 gallon tank I would recommend you get atleast 40lbs of Live rock

I absolutely and totally disagree about the anemone. Clowns do not need anemones, and percs and ocellaris (the most common Nemos) are rather picky about their hosts. Tank reared clowns have never seen an anemone, and will often ignore one placed in their tank. If most anemones did not have such an abysmal survivial record in captivity, I would encourage the keeping of clown/anemone pairs. Right now, it's just not a good idea to recommend an anemone to someone who is just starting a marine tank.

Sorry about the tirade, but it's one of my pet peeves. Too many anemones are collected simply to die in tanks that aren't ready for them.

I totally agree about the Remora, though. Great skimmer.

Hans,
You might want to rethink the stocking plan. It seems a little heavy to me. Have you got Bob Fenner's Conscientious Marine Aquarist? It's a great book if you're setting up a marine tank, and looks great under the tree.

I also strongly disagree with the anemone recommendation...to say the least. The clownfish will not need an anemone and anemones have no place in new, unestablished tanks.

Also, forget about the Yellow Boxfish. They get HUGE (up to 18"/45cm) and require a tank at least five times that big. They're also not very easy to care for. :)

Wow, I meant to like add a anemone later, 6-7 months later, because IMO 9 out of 10 ppl that "just start" with a fowlr tend to upgrade to a reef, and I figured since I read in a salt water magazine that clowns prefer a anemone in their habitat, this would be a good option.

Sorry if you think it's a bad suggestion, And I will agree that Im not coming from experience with anemone/clownfish but I will say that I have read that clowns DO prefer a anemone.
