Trimming vals?

How do you trim Vals? I have some that are almost 4 feet long. Do I just cut the leaf?

I'd just cut it to the length you want it. If you're cutting it way down, it may temporarily stress the plant, but I doubt you'll kill it. I've never trimmed four foot val though, only a couple feet cut down to about six inches or so.

I cut halfway until new leaves start at base and then cut off the entire leaf.

Well, I don't want to chop the whole leaf off. I just need to trim several inches off...
