I am looking to consolidate some of my tanks into one large tank. I found an 80 gallon tank that I want but the though of lugging it up to a third floor apartment does not sound like a good time. So I think I have to settle for a 55 gallon. Here are the fish that I currently have in other tanks and plan on putting in the 55.

9 Cardinal Tetras
12 Rummynose Tetras
2 Cherry Barbs
3 Cory Cats
3 Clown Loaches
1 Pearl Gourami
2 Blue Rams (both female)
5 otos

I would like to add 2-3 SAE's and 1-2 female pearl gourmi. Comments would be welcome.

I think that you are currently overstocked for a 55 without adding more fish. Personally, I would select some fish to trade back into the fish store. I would at least plan to return the clown loaches if they get too large for the tank. With great filtration and attentive maintenance you may not have any problems, but I think it is more of an "at your own risk" sort of deal. Good luck!

Definitely don't add SAE or gouramis!! you'd have a ticking time bomb on your hands!!! I'd ditch the pearl gourami you already have and then I think you'd be fine.

What's wrong with pearl gourami's or Siamese Algae Eater's?

I think you will be fine. It doesn't look like that much to me.

From what I've read and heard, Siamese Algae Eaters are very peaceful toward other fish. Now false SAE's (flying fox) are not peaceful when they get larger. Also I've had my Pearl Gourami for 2 years and he has not bothered a single fish. I think Pearls are the most peaceful gourami. I have had dwarf and blue gouramis and they have turned evil. Oh and for the clowns, I am planning on upgrading to a 150 or 180 in a few years so they will have plenty of room when they get larger.
