I'm interested in doing DIY CO2 again. I have done it before but I had one little issue with it.

Where should one place the DIY CO2 bottle? I used to place it under the tank. However, what would happen is that once the air is cooled, the bottle would create a low pressure inside and as a result start siphoning the water out of the tank.

Few issues I have had with DIY CO2.

1) put in warm water to get yeast started but as bottle cooled so did the air inside the bottle, creating a siphon thru airline tubing stated as above

2) placement of teh bottle....under the tank, same level as the tank, on top of the tank?

3) How does one prevent 1) yeast solution going into the tank and to prevent 2) tank water siphon back into the yeast bottle?

Hmmm.. My bottles have never created suction back into the bottle. THe CO2 production always outpaced the contraction from cooling, if there ever was any. But here are my answers to your three questions:

1. First, put an airline check valve up near the tank rim. Prepare your mix hours to a day before you hook it into the system, so you know its going before you hook it up and discard the old one. Also, rehydrate the yeast seperately from the mix. My yeast states on the package to rehydrate in 105 deg water for 15 minute before you add it to the sugar/jelllo mix which is at room temperature. You can even throw in a inch of sugar to the rehydrating water to get it going faster.
2. I put mine in the stand with a check valve
3. Check valve

I silicone my check valves to the tubing the prevent leaks, which happened to me a couple of times in the past on both sides of the valve.

What was your recipe? Some people ave refined the yeast recipes a little recently.
