Does anyone know if there is somthing I can feed bettas to prepare them to breed that I would have around the house liked boiled egg yolk? I am 14 so I cant drive to a petstore and get frozen blood worms. I cant get my parents to take me. Thanks.

Hmm... small insects?
My betta likes it when I give him fruit flies that thrive in our mandatory-composting garbage cans in the warm moths.

yup, they like those egg yolks. Some like boiled skinned peas. Small bugs as mentioned...fruit flies are a favorite. I bet they'd like small ants too.
But, they need a varied diet. They can't really be in tip top shape if theyre eating the same (nutritionally unbalanced) thing at every meal. I know I'd get sick of eating Corn Flakes for every meal real quick!
Next time you're out with them (your parents), pick up the biggest thing of bloodworms (frozen or freeze dried) that you can find, as well as a thing of pellets (which last forever anyway) so that you will only have to go out every six months or so.

I feed my bettas Betta Bites, supplemmented with frozen blood worms, frozen brine shrimp, freeze dried red grubs and at the right time of year misquito larvae.
To get misquito larvae just leave a bucket of water outside in a shady area. Wait about a week or two- and you should have little squiggly larvae in there soon enough. Right time of year is spring to fall, depending on your area.
I'd rather make my own 'pond' rather than collect bugs from ponds that could be polluted. My bettas just love them though!
Yes, mosquito larva are a summer favorite of my betta as well.

i still have mosquito larvae outside :) my bettas like chunks of shrimp i always hold some in the water so they can tear off little chunks before i feed the arowana. its cool to see them hit it and little puffs of shrimpmeat and juice comes into the water. but then mine are 2.5 inch monsters they are plakats too.
I have put little pieces of raw salamon on a thread and hung it in the tank. My betta likes to rip pieces off. It was funny the first time as he spent 10 minutes flaring at it until he realized it was food.

Thank you for all the ideas. I got some frozen blood worms 2 days ago.
