My girlfriend just bought me a 55 gallon for Christmas and I don't yet have a stand. I might buy one of those "angle iron" stands at the LFS. However I was wondering if any one has any warnings about those. 55's stands are kinda narrow. Is it wobbley, or possible the tank might slip? I am sure they are safe, but I would like some peoples advice. Thank you.

I never said that I did Sherlock. I only have a ten gallon. What do you have Slipknottin to justify being post leader?
But lets stay on topic now, or we can go to chit-chat.

Never knew there was a correlation bewteen most posts and most tanks. There is however a correlation bewteen trolls and how interested they actually are in fish.

How many do you have? Seriously I am interested Slip. I wasn't implying a correlation though.

I have five tanks right now, an african cichlid tank, an amazon tank, a reef, a marine grass tank, and just an awful looking algae filled aquarium. (that one is in the closet)

Thank you for your eventual civility Mr. Slip.
Wow, this makes nine posts unrelated to the original question. I only hope someone will answer it.

Anyways, my 55 gallon tank is on an angle iron stand. Yes it most certainly is top heavy. Its well built to the point where the tank wont come crashing down, but I would try to secure it to the wall or put additional weight on the bottom so it doesnt rock back and forth.

Would you recommend fastening it to a wall stud?

Yes, if you can. GCVT had a link to a wall tether system thing that was made to hold TVs and things to the wall in earthquake country

Thanks for answering this old cartographer's question. Hey, that is what a model poster and moderator like yourself should be doing. Thank you Slip. If only "starts with a C and ends with an X"was not such a Saddam, we could really make progress.
