How can I make sure my BN plec is getting enough food?

The only thing I've actually SEEN him eat has been zucchini. I drop some algae wafers into the tank every so often, but the other fish like them and get them before the pleco does.:shakehead: Can he live on zucchini and other veggies? If I made my own fish food (like gelatin cubes) would that be better, or get big algae wafers that I can rubberband to a rock (he seems to find those easier)? Thanks for any suggestions!
 
I sometimes cut a small slit in zucchini & stick in a piece of wafer or pellet. You can also feed after lights out if you don't have nocturnal gluttons.
 
I use to drop algae waffers in after dark.
