My hoses on my mag. 350 cannister filter have started turning a yellow /brown inside, almost like an algea, but both hoses are shielded from all light, is this normal ?? the tank is in it's 4th week of cycling and the peak was last week so another couple of weeks i guess, and maybe another water change and a rinse [ in the water from the aquarium] what is causing this discolorzation in the hoses ????

because stuff is growing in it. if you turn off the filter and turn it back on you will probably see a bunch of it comming out. ntohing you can do except clean the hoses often. just bio film and maybe algae

thanks blitzen 25 bm, i have the hoses sheilded from light, but i do have the heater right next to the intake tube, and the filtered water is warmed, the filter did come with flexible hose cleaners, so i guess it is time to use them. the hoses were clear a few days ago, and i just noticed them looking like this .

I have to clean the hoses on my canister filter every 2-3 months. If a hose has a kink in it, I'll skip cleaning it all together and just toss it, and replace it with a new hose.
