I think his point was that since the pleco hides all the time, he wanted a way to get it without dismantling the tank.
How about a piece of black PVC pipe, capped at one end, bait it with his favorite food, wait for him to swim in, and you got him.

My question is, if he never moves then what does he eat? Which goes to what Wippit Guud is saying. That is usually the easiest way. My plecos are so big I'd have to use a 2 liter bottle if I had to get them out. Maybe a muskie net might work too, lol.

Its best to catch pleco in a container and not a net as they can very easily get tangled up in nets. They have spines and the net catches on them as they try to stuggle. I had to cut up a net trying to get my pleco untaggled without hurting him.
The black PVC idea is a good one. Check on planetcatfish.com as to what king plecos eat and place it in there. But if this doesn't work then yo umight have to take apart the tank(sorry). Since you never see it how do yo uknow its still alive and in there?
Also dont' touch it with your hands. Once I was trying to move my pleco and it stuck me good enough to draw blood. Not a fun experience.

No but they'll cut you up good. I wouldn't even think about tryin to grab my 17 inch pleco.
cheers ill try the back pipe method. Hes def alive, moves his fins and moves a bit when others get too close.
