I got about $60 or so to buy some plants for my 29 gallon.
I live next to an excellent store that carries most plants, called albany aquarium. Howeve the only problem is that they are insanely expensive. For example they charged me $5 for 1 bunch of Sagitaria subulata. I was thinking of purchasing the plants online, however I think that by the time I get done paying for shipping on the plants it will end up being the same as the LFS and I wont see what I am getting.
Any advice?
Thanks!
Your point is valid about the shipping and not being able to see what you get. I purchased plants recently from an online store (I don't know if I should name names or not. Let's just say the store started with "aqua"), and had a negative experience. I ended up paying around $60.00 for several plants, and they looked terrible once they arrived (they were awful cuttings). Half of them are no longer alive, and I only ordered them about a month ago. Also, they were snail and hair algea infested. I know I should have taken more care before introducing the plants to my tank, but now I've got hair algea and snails. Besides that, the guy who sold them to me never responded to an email I sent him after I made the order regarding some of the plants, and he was skimpy in what he sent me. For what I paid I should have had twice the amount that was sent.
I ended up going to the LFS and buying a whole bunch more plants to kind of make up for the lack that my online order produced. The plants I purchased locally were in a lot better shape, I got twice the amount of my online order, they still look good, and I paid what you would online. So if you do order online, take great care in where you go and what you get. Good luck, hopefully someone on here can recommend some good online sites for you. Oh, and sorry for the long rant.

Sorry you had that experience with Aquaweknowwho I will stay away from them.
I broke down and went to that lfs in Albany. I payed $35 for 3 plant bunches ouch!! Of course one of which I have forgotten the name of, was a purple plant with green stems, the leaves are thin, pointy and have serrated edges, very beautiful I hate to use this example but they almost look like marijauna leaves, not that I do pot but a lot of my friends do and they have paraphanalia. 8.99 for the bunch. The other two are money wart and rotala macranda.
The tank looks a little fuller :p

I used Pet Solutions in the past, but they had delays and plants should have looked better (IMO)..
